Martin Gomberg, Senior Vice President & Chief Information Officer, A&E Television Network and The History Channel

Today’s financial crisis is hauntingly familiar to CIO Martin Gomberg. During the 1980’s, while employed by a major investment bank, Marty was tasked with the forensics investigation into $48 billion dollars of defaulted debt for a Latin American country — and issues similar to today’s concerns about diverse financial instruments spreading ‘toxic assets’ throughout the global banking system. Along with his forensics work, he developed the economic model used by an interbank economic advisory committee to demonstrate that the defaulted country could meet its commitments.

Later in his career as a turnaround specialist and financial industry consultant, Marty helped companies manage through recession-driven reductions, budgetary cuts and projects in crisis.

Marty’s background has shaped his approach to business risk management and continuity planning, which he will share during the CIO Executive Council Workshop roundtable discussions. Effective continuity planning is exactly the tool companies today need to guide them through the pitfalls of the global recession.
